Alaska Forum Virtual Technical Session: SM-1A Decommissioning and Dismantlement – Project Update

The US Army Corps of Engineers has actively begun to implement the decommissioning and dismantlement of the SM-1A deactivated nuclear power plant located at Fort Greely, AK. The team is in the initial planning phases at this point with a planned mobilization date in May 2024. The update will include details on the history of the project, our regulatory framework, where the project is headed in the next 12-18 months, discusses our planned waste transportation route and tribal consultation, plus will allow for questions and answers.
