With the support of a grant from EPA, the Knik Tribe and the Alaska Forum have partnered to build upon the Green Star® program (an Alaska Forum Pollution Prevention Program) that can support Pollution Prevention (P2) in Alaska Native Villages.
The Knik Tribe and the Alaska Forum will provide P2 technical assistance and projects with rural businesses to choose EPA identified Safer Choice products in their daily operations and to make these Safer Choice products available to community residents.
The Safer Choice program allows Alaskan small businesses, governments, and communities to demonstrate leadership in preventing pollution.
By utilizing, featuring, or selling certified products that are safer for Alaskans, communities can help advance safety for human health and the environment.

Reducing pollution at the source allows communities to lower their input of harmful materials into local waste stream, and the often associated negative health and environmental impacts.
Implementing pollution prevention practices reduces both financial and environmental costs, which strengthens economic growth through more efficient production in industry and less need for households, businesses, and communities to handle waste. Many of the Safer Choice products available today offer the same results and comparable prices to traditional options.
